Things To Do: Volunteer @ Duraebang

If you are living in the Pyeongtaek area, or are willing to travel from elsewhere nearby, Duraebang, an NGO that helps women get out of the sex industry around US military bases, could use some help! We are working with their shelter that specifically assists Filipina victims of sex trafficking.

For more information on this, you can read a recent Hankyoreh article by clicking this link: http://english.hani.co.kr/arti/english_edition/e_international/390782.html

We are looking for volunteers in the following categories:

1. Bilingual volunteers (English and Korean; Tagalog and English; Korean and Tagalog)
This position is for consulting with Filipino women working in the clubs who need help.

2. Volunteers to accompany shelter staff to bars/military camptown areas on trips to rescue Filipina women who have requested their help

3. Volunteers with skills to offer, such as: able to teach Korean, able to offer free services such as massage, yoga or other activities to the shelter inhabitants.

4. Duraebang can also use financial contributions—-in order to donate, see here: www.lilayoga.com/duraebang OR donate daily items for use in the shelter, such as toiletries.

If you are interested in getting involved and think you could fit any of these roles, please get in touch with us, indicate which role(s) you think you could play. Since this is a sensitive issue and situation for the shelter workers and inhabitants, please also indicate what your interest is in this issue and whether you have any experience working with women or volunteering with an NGO in a related capacity. Also, let us know how long you plan to be in Korea if you aren’t a permanent resident. Thanks so much for your support!
